As if to render the word "Classics" meaningless, AMC (American Movie Classics) is showing Halle Berry's magnum opus, "Catwoman," right now. Yesterday, USA aired Waterworld, and TNT has been on a Steven Seagal kick as of late. What makes these stations think that people will be more willing to sit through edited, commercial-interrupted dreck than to rent it?
Sigh...299 pages left.

Classics I've seen on AMC:
"Catwoman" natch
"Jaws 2"
"Twins"
To be fair that last one isn't total crap. Its just not any kind of classic anything...
I still say the strangest AMC choice, good movie though it may be, it "Das Boot." How, in ANY way, is that one an AMERICAN movie classic?
C'mon Tom, speed it up! It drags through the middle for a bit, but it does start to get rolling towards the back.
Oh, I finished it on Saturday.
Heh heh.
I've seen AMC show that masterwork of film known as. . . "Happy Gilmore".
It's so odd though, to contrast those movies with them showing the "Godfather" trilogy, which I believe they did recently.
I'd say Turner Classic Movies does a much better job of living up to the "classic" in their title.
Sallyp: I didn't get to my mailbox 'til 5:00 on Friday, and I had company all weekend. That slowed my progress just a bit.
Jaws 2? Das Boot? Happy Gilmore? Honestly, AMC really needs to just change its name to "whatever we can get the rights to movie classics."
Not to put too fine a point on it, but this is the country that did elect George W. Bush President...twice. These are the "classics" we apparently demand.
That said, the did show Commando the other week. Gosh I love that flick.
Not to be pedantic, but it's been the American Movie CHANNEL for like four years now.
And all that means is they can show any sort of crap they want, so long as it's American crap.
