I stuck to the ones I've seen; plus Constantine. Physics undergrad? Really? Now I'm going to have to check that out. That might top Denise Richards' 'Christmas Jones' as fiction's most unlikely physicist.
Once you start bashing Keanu, you're dead to me. DEAD!!!! One of the great underrated actors of this generation. Admit it!!!!!
Keanu Reeves would be a fantastic actor if he were more typecast. If he had gone the "Ernest" route and made a career out of Bill & Ted movies, he'd be a comedic genius.
That said, he comes pretty close to being convincing in Devil's Advocate, but that I think has more to do with it being a fantastic movie.
Keanu was alright as the washed up, never was ex-Quarterback in The Replacements.
And I think The Devil's Advocate only worked because of how hard he was having to concentrate to do that accent, which kept him from letting the "dude" show through.
And acting opposite Pacino and Theron elevated his game.

Yeah, Advocate was Pacino's movie, not Keanu's. Had it been the other way 'round, it wouldn't have been nearly as good.

DEAD TO ME!!!!!
Before he was Ted in 1989, in 1988 Keanu convincingly played a flaky, naive 17th century French music teacher who gets conned by Glenn Close and John Malkovich. It was beautifully surreal, because you could just hear him ending every line with "[pause], Dude!"
Actually a very good movie, with a young Uma Thurman as his female counterpart.
And Uma gets naked, if that's your sort of thing. River's Edge, which also came out before Bill and Ted's, is a brilliant movie, and Keanu, although he plays kind of the same guy as Ted (albeit seriously), is very good. He plays kind of the same guy in Parenthood, too, and that's another good movie.
I guess I'm not making a very good case for Keanu. I still love him, in a totally manly way.
